UK update: Permits Foundation invites feedback following further restrictions on international family members
04 July 2025Today Permits Foundation updated our world map UK page with yet another restriction on accompanying dependants of international employees.
Effective 22 July 2025, workers sponsored in occupations on either the Immigration Salary List or the Temporary Shortage List at RQF levels 3-5 will not be able to bring dependants.
This measure is the latest in a series of announcements affecting family members.
Under the recent UK immigration white paper, proposals included new English language requirements for dependants and the possible lengthening of the time required to gain indefinite leave to remain/citizenship.
Moreover:
- As of Spring 2024, foreign Health and Social Care visa may no longer bring dependants to the United Kingdom.
- From January 2024, international students can no longer bring dependants on their student visa, unless they are studying a research postgraduate programme.
- British citizens and those settled in the UK who want their family members to join them now need to earn a higher minimum salary.
Permits Foundation is increasingly concerned about the slow erosion of dependant rights that is taking place in the UK.
